The Shining at the Temple Cinema – East End Film Festival
June 27 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm
TEMPLE CINEMA, East End Film Festival’s strand pairing classic horror with its contemporary counterparts (all from within the bowels of the unearthed Masonic temple at Andaz Liverpool Street), continued last month with ‘Mandy’.
The film is a visceral portrayal of one man’s delirious descent into psychosis, so what better pairing for it than Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’? Jack Nicholson’s Jack Torrance accepts a role as caretaker in an isolated hotel, but upon arriving with his young family, the building slowly reveals its self to be a place of spiritual disquiet and psychological discontent – and Jack soon begins to lose his mind in its winding corridors.
For many, the experience of walking around a hotel is forever linked with the eerie discomfort of the Overlook Hotel, making the festival’s venue the ideal location to admire this milestone in horror filmmaking.
