LHF: Spirit Box
October 30 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Sarah Gain Productions presents Spirit Box – a new, paranormal stage play debuting at the Pleasance, Islington for the London Horror Festival on 30th and 31st October ‘21. Devised and developed by George Rennie and the team behind Up, Up, Up and Away!, Spirit Box responds directly to the experience of being trapped inside a little box – be that a room, a screen or a state of mind – answering the horrors of pandemic life with a stylised, dramatic and thoroughly entertaining tale that channels the spirit of online ghost-hunting communities and the Victorian Gothic.
The play follows the highly sensitive and recently bereaved Master Redlaw, on his return to the family home after the death of his father. Strange shadows and strangely behaving birds prompt him to reach out to the sharp and determined YouTube ghost hunter, Dara Faulks, who installs herself in the house and begins to take over, revealing motives of her own to make contact with the spirit world. Possessions, doppelgängers and spectral visitations ensue, and the two characters find themselves drawn towards the secrets of a mysterious box – an elusive container that promises to unlock the key to Redlaw’s troubled family history, and crack open the very foundations upon which their story unfolds.
