Stanley’s Film Club: Repulsion
April 19, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
Director: Roman Polanski. UK 1965. 102 mins.
REPULSION is a chilling study of loneliness and psychosis, and arguably the most accurate depiction of schizophrenia ever committed to film. Catherine Deneuve plays Carol, a shy and beautiful young Belgian who is left alone for a few days in the Kensington flat she shares with her sister. Unable to interpret the advances of the men she encounters, she soon begins to withdraw into a reclusive existence, tortured relentlessly by hallucinatory experiences.
Thanks to its disturbing detail and Polanski’s adeptness at turning claustrophobic space into an emotional minefield, REPULSION is a surreal, mind-bending odyssey into personal horror, and it remains one of cinema’smost shocking psychological thrillers.
We are proud to be hosting this event in partnership with Coffee Craft’s Nick Shaw, who will be running the London Marathon on Sunday 23 April to raise funds for Mind, a charity that promotes awareness about mental health, and provides help and support for anyone experiencing a mental health problem. You can find out more about their work here: www.mind.org.uk.Raffle tickets will be on sale alongside a collection on the night, or you can donate directly to Nick’s fundraising page.
