What’s the most annoying ‘trope’ you see in a horror movie?
You know… that one thing that makes you roll your eyes and shout “Oh COME ON! As if you’d ever do that!”
I’d wager that it’s probably one of the following:
Someone decides to head down into an old, abandoned basement somewhere terrifying – for no good reason at all.
Or what about…
Whilst being chased in an (often massive) house, a hapless victim-to-be runs upstairs of all places.
Or, perhaps it’s when a group of seemingly rational people decide to split up and go running off in different directions… what has that ever accomplished?!
And for us here at The London Horror Society, it’s absolutely the latter. After all, your chances of surviving a horror film are far better when you stick together!
What’s more, we think the same is true when it comes to creating your very own horror film, story… or any other creative project for that matter!
Which is why we’ve spent the last 5 years trying our very best to bring horror fans and professionals from all over the country together — to help spread the word about brilliant new projects and, most importantly of all, celebrate the love of our favourite genre.
From our short film showcases, to our speed pitching sessions, and even our live online quizzes. We’ve loved doing whatever we can to make creating, sharing and celebrating indie horror easier for all.
And if there’s one thing we can emphatically say about our experience doing this, is that we have been truly humbled by the sheer depth of talent that our members possess — which is only matched by their complete dedication to their craft.
Furthermore, as is so often the case, when you’re surrounded by creative people, that inspiration becomes pretty contagious…
That’s why for the last year, we’ve been working on a brand-new membership offering to better serve not just everyone who already works in the industry… but for those who are looking to start, too.
And today, we are delighted to announce that the doors are finally open.
Introducing LHS Pro - the new premier membership service from The London Horror Society!
We have created LHS Pro to be what we think is the ultimate solution that will not only help writers, filmmakers and any other creative individuals find others to work and collaborate with…
…but also help demystify and simplify some of the more complex and time-consuming areas of the creative industry too.
And not only that, it aims to help both aspiring and seasoned professionals develop their talents by learning from those at the very top of their game — in every corner of the film industry.
We’ll get to the full details of what’s inside LHS Pro in just a second, but before we do, let’s first go back to the very beginning, and see how this all started…
Cast your mind back to 2013, and a very small group of friends living in London were on the hunt to find more like-minded people to watch horror movies with.
And after scanning what was at the time, pretty primitive social media for any club or group and drawing a blank, they decided to start their own.
And with that, The London Horror Society was born.
But what started as a London-based community of horror fans to get together and watch their favourite films, quickly started to evolve.
You see, what’s so incredible about the UK horror community is how amazingly supportive they are of up-and-coming talent, and those die-hard individuals that work on projects at the lower end of the budget scale.
We were lucky enough to be introduced to a wide range of incredibly talented people, creating outstanding art for the sheer love of the genre – and sometimes, to little or no fanfare, which seemed so unfair!
So at that point, we decided to help spread the word in any way we could about these outstanding indie projects from all over the UK.
We’ve showcased our favourite low budget and independent short films to new audiences…
promoted new releases and crowdfunding campaigns…
reviewed and previewed a whole host of projects from the length and breadth of the country…
hosted various networking events including our new Speed Pitching sessions – specifically designed to help people collaborate on new projects…
…and we’ve loved every minute of it.
And we like to think we’ve made a difference, too
And while we’re so pleased to have made a positive impact, we know that there’s still so much that can be done to help.
The creative industries can still be such a daunting and confusing place, littered with potholes and bumps that can at best trip you up on your journey…
…and at worst, could completely destroy a project that you’ve perhaps spent years working on – and that’s not even considering the money you might have spent bringing it this far going up in smoke.
And that’s exactly why we’ve chosen to create LHS Pro.
Not only did we want to provide a place where creatives from all industries can come together, find others to collaborate with, and develop their talents…
…but also to try and remove those potential pitfalls that you might encounter on the way, to save you all that extra time, effort and stress it might take trying to navigate on your own.
And no – despite our name, LHS Pro is not just for people operating in the horror genre.
We have specifically built LHS Pro to help a range of different professionals (and aspiring professionals!) working in all genres, and across many disciplines, including:
- Writers & Screenwriters
- Cast & Crew
And now, we’re ready to welcome you all into the fold.
So without further ado, let’s answer the question that I’m sure you’re all pondering right now…
What do I get as an LHS Pro member?
Access to the private LHS Pro Discord Server
If you haven’t yet used it, Discord is an all-in-one text chat and forum that’s free, secure, and works on both your desktop and phone. As soon as you join LHS Pro, you’ll be able to access our private Discord area, which is the ‘beating heart’ of our new service.
Once you’re inside, you’ll be able to meet and talk to your fellow Pros in real time and share news about what you’re working on.
But what we’re really excited about, is that you’ll also be able to find other people to collaborate with too. So, if you’re looking for assistance in bringing your film idea or script to life – or if you’re looking to find a project to get involved with, then this is the place to make it happen.
Each and every month, we’ll be hosting recorded online video Q&As with top industry experts from a wide range of specialities.
You’ll not only get your chance to pose questions to writers, directors and other creative maestros, but also those in the more niche areas of the industry, such as PR & marketing, or crowdfunding, to name just a couple.
In each Master Q&A session, we’ll be asking our guest questions sent in directly by you, our members.
Our first guest was Dr Rebekah Louisa Smith, or as she’s better known to many, The Film Festival Doctor.
Dr Smith and her team currently help UK filmmakers of all levels get their films seen by audiences around the world. And so far, she has notched up more than 1000 film festival awards for her clients along the way.
This session is ready for you to watch as soon as you join LHS Pro, and in it, Dr Smith uncovers:
- How to best set out your festival strategy, and when to create one.
- How to maximise your selection chances.
- How to make the most of your exposure
- What to do if it all goes wrong!
And coming up very shortly, we’ll be posing your questions to our next guest — Greg Day, Film PR specialist.
Greg is the managing director of Clout Communications, who boast an impressive client list including Andy Nyman (Ghost Stories) Derren Brown, Michael Madsen (Kill Bill, Resevoir Dogs) The Horror Channel, Signature Entertainment and many more. He has over 20 years experience in the sector, working for the likes of Channel 4 and Columbia Pictures.
Whether it be a film, theatre production or book, knowing how to best market your work is absolutely crucial in finding the right audience for you. In this session, you’ll be able to get tips on how to best create that all-important ‘buzz’ for your projects, and learn how to make sure you really get people talking!
We’re incredibly passionate about helping both budding and experienced filmmakers, writers and other industry professionals get out there and create fabulous projects. After all, there’s so much to be learned by getting out there and learning through experience!
But this doesn’t mean that we don’t see value in formal training and better understanding the theory behind it.
That’s why at LHS Pro, we’re working with some highly respected tutors to develop condensed and concise recorded training sessions that aim to provide a deeper, more academic insight into a range of creative subjects.
And the moment you join LHS Pro, you’ll be able to access our first course: How To Write A Screenplay.
This 3-hour recorded video tutorial explores a proven method for developing concepts into production-ready scripts, and is written and developed by Paul Harker, a lecturer in Screenwriting at the University of Leeds and a screenwriting mentor at the Oakwood Film Academy.
It’s split into 3 unique sessions:
- Session 1: 101 Film Structure
- Session 2: Using Structure to develop loglines
- Session 3: From Logline to finished script

What’s more, we’ve arranged some exclusive special offers and packages too, saving you even more money!

*** SPECIAL LIMITED-EDITION ‘FOUNDER MEMBER’ BONUS: ***
“ASK LHS PRO”
Now, we imagine a number of you might well be unsure about joining a new service right at the very beginning of its life. And we understand that – it can absolutely be scary to be among the first group of people to take the plunge into something new!
And also, we fully appreciate that it might take a bit of time for new members to filter in to the service, making our Discord server quieter at the start.
So we wanted to do something extra special for those people – our ‘founder members’ – who decide to join us from the very start.
That’s why, for a limited time only1, all ‘founder members’ who come on board will have access to a very special perk indeed: Ask LHS Pro.
This bonus benefit gives you the opportunity to come to us with any particular problem or obstacle that you might be experiencing with a project – and we’ll come back to you with suggestions on how best we think you could solve it.
(Although please note, we can’t provide any specific legal advice.)
Think of it as a special ‘helpline’ of sorts, that gives you instant access to the London Horror Society and our wealth of contacts and experience. With this perk at your fingertips, we’re extremely confident that we can guide you through whatever is causing you issues.
Hopefully now you have a better idea as to what’s waiting for you inside LHS Pro, and that you’re chomping at the bit to join us. But there’s one final detail that we need to cover first:
How much does access to LHS Pro cost?
Now, when you consider the sheer amount of value contained inside LHS Pro, you wouldn’t be alone in thinking that the cost of membership could have run into hundreds of pounds a year.
But as we said right at the beginning of this message, we think that this industry is a much better place when you don’t go it alone… so we wanted to make LHS Pro as accessible to as many people as we possibly can.
Which is why we have decided to price a full 12 months of membership at just £49. That works out to less than £1 a week!1
Can you think of any other similar service out there that offers so much potential value at such a small cost?
But I’m afraid there’s one catch…
If you want to take advantage of our special “Founder Member” bonus, and get access to that incredible Ask LHS Pro perk, then you’ll need to hurry.
That’s because due to the high value of that special bonus alone, we can only offer Founder Membership status to the first 300 people that come through the door.
So I urge you, if you’re keen to take advantage of that extra special bonus, then I advise you to act now. Because once those 300 spots are taken, we cannot offer any more.
We are so proud of what we’ve accomplished here at The London Horror Society already, and are so excited to be entering the next stage of our journey to hopefully help everyone try and make the very most of their creative careers.

We sincerely look forward to welcoming you inside LHS Pro!
