This Week’s Horror Releases: 1st August

Looking for something new to watch this week? Here’s a list of all of this week’s new horror releases across cinemas and the main VOD platforms. We’ll also give you a quick run down of what came out last week, in case you missed anything!

VOD Releases

Prey (2022)

Disney+, from Friday 5th August. Dir: Dan Trachtenberg. Starring: Amber Midthunder, Dane DiLiegro, Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat.

The origin story of the Predator in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago. Naru, a skilled female warrior, fights to protect her tribe against one of the first highly-evolved Predators to land on Earth.

What Josiah Saw (2022)

Shudder, from Thursday 4th August. Dir: Vincent Grashaw. Starring: Robert Patrick, Nick Stahl, Scott Haze

Everyone in town knows about the haunted Graham Farm on Willow Road. You’ll hear there’s a bad history to it. Josiah and his youngest son, Thomas, are all that remain of this estranged family. But after experiencing terrifying visions from beyond, Josiah decides they must change their ways to right a great wrong. After being away for over two decades, Eli and Mary, Josiah’s eldest children, are enticed to sell the property and reunite at the old farmhouse in hopes of closing this haunting chapter of their lives for good. Sins of the past will be paid in full.

Knocking (2021)

A woman leaves a psychiatric ward after a nervous breakdown, only to start hearing mysterious knocking sounds in her apartment.

The Crazies (1973)

Shudder, from Monday 1st August. Dir: George A. Romero. Starring: Lane Carroll, Will MacMillan, Harold Wayne Jones.

The military attempts to contain a manmade combat virus that causes death and permanent insanity in those infected, as it overtakes a small Pennsylvania town.

Season of the Witch (1972)

Shudder, from Monday 1st August. Dir: George A. Romero. Starring: Jan White, Raymond Laine, Ann Muffly.

A neglected, unhappy suburban housewife gets mixed up in witchcraft with unexpected consequences.

The Deeper You Dig (2019)

Shudder, from Monday 1st August. Dir: John Adams, Zelda Adams, Toby Poser. Starring: John Adams, Zelda Adams, Toby Poser.

In the aftermath of a roadside accident, the line between the living and the dead collapses for a mother, a daughter and a stranger.

The Reef: Stalked (2022)

Shudder, from Thursday 29th July. Dir: Andrew Traucki. Starring: Teressa Liane, Ann Truong, Kate Lister.

In an effort to heal after witnessing her sister’s horrific murder, Nic, her younger sister Annie and two close friends travel to a remote Pacific Island for a kayaking and diving adventure. Hours into their expedition, the women are stalked and attacked by a Great White shark. To survive, they will need to band together, and Nic will have to overcome her post-traumatic stress, face her fears, and slay a monster.

REC (2007)

Shudder, from Monday 25th July. Dir: Jaume Balagueró, Paco Plaza. Starring: Manuela Velasco, Ferran Terazza, Jorge-Yamam Serrano

A TV reporter and her cameraman are doing a routine interview at a local fire station when an emergency call comes in. Accompanying the firefighters to a nearby apartment, the news team begins recording the bloodcurdling screams from inside an elderly woman’s unit. After authorities seal off the building to contain the threat, the news crew, firefighters and residents are trapped to face a lethal terror inside. With the camera running, nothing may survive but the film itself.

Rawhead Rex (1986)

Shudder, from Monday 25th July. Dir: George Pavlou. Starring: David Dukes, Kelly Piper, Hugh O’Conor.

An ancient creature called Rawhead is awakened from its slumber near an Irish village and goes on a rampage killing anyone in sight.
